Tips on How to Keep Your Original Printed Photos Safe
And Finally...

At Our End

Locked File

Your photos are our business.
Please be assured that we take their safety - and your peace of mind - very seriously. Once your photos arrive they are checked and placed in secure, safe storage and only ever handled with cotton gloves to eliminate the risk of fingerprints. We will let you know that they are here and possibly contact you about your requirements and  options. They will be scanned and placed on your personalised online album within 3-4 working days. They will then be returned to you without delay.

Once your photos are online, they will be hosted on a secure server and the album containing them will be password protected. Only you and those you choose to share the album with will have access.

We will more than likely re-use the packaging that you send your photos in. Please don't be offended. This is to minimise the cost to us (and therefore you) as well as the environment.

Tips on Sending Your Photos Safely

Mailbox

Packing:

Leave the photos in their original wallets.
Jiffy bags work great. They protect the photos from impact and are reasonably moisture proof. Add some card either side of the photos for extra protection (empty cereal boxes folded or cut to size are perfect).
Alternatively, make a rigid protective envelope by opening both ends of a cereal box, flatten it, fold one end over and tape it down (use plenty of tape!). Place in your photos and tape down the other end. If one box isn't big enough, use as many as you need to and tape them to each other. This keeps down the postage cost and adds extra rigidity.
Albums should be wrapped in bubble wrap or material of some kind before packing into a box (again, cereal boxes can be useful here).
PLEASE make sure to include your email and phone number with your photos so that they can be identified.

Postage:
We advise using registered post so that you can track the progress of your parcel from door to door. Print an

Tips on How to Keep Your Original Printed Photos Safe
There are huge advantages to digitising your original photo prints- that's why you're doing it right? But that doesn't make the originals any less precious. Here are a few tips to help you keep them in good condition for longer:

Alert

Frame

Storage:
Choose somewhere reasonably well ventilated without large temperature fluctuations. Do not store against an external wall of the house or in a damp corner. If humidity or moisture is likely to be a problem, consider using a de-humidifyer in the room, or storing in a closed moisture proof box or cabinet.

Choose your album carefully:
When selecting pages for your photo album, look for ones that are acid- and lignin-free. These chemicals can yellow and damage pictures.

Don't use adhesives:
Look for plain pages without adhesive, unless it's archival quality. Instead, use photo corners to secure your pictures.

Store albums on their edge:
Over time the weight of albums pressing down on your photos can cause impressions or cause them to stick, so make sure not to store your albums flat to avoid this.

Avoid direct sunlight:
When displaying your photos, try keep them out of direct sunlight. Cover them with anti-UV glass.

Pad the Frame:
Be sure to put an acid-free mat between the frame and the photo to prevent your prints from sticking to the glass over time.

Don't touch the surface:
When showing pictures to friends and family, try to avoid touching the surface of the prints. Skin leaves oils that can permanently stain a print after a number of years. If this happens, clean the print carefully and gently with rubbing alcohol.

Kids:
Kids love photos, but photos don't love kids! High is best. This also helps to avoid damage from pets, flooding, pests, spills, knocks…

And Finally...
These are the factors that you can control. However, there are many others that you can't such as fire, theft and even time. While digitising will always allow you to replace your originals through reprinting, if the original prints themselves are of significant value you may want to consider purchasing a fireproof safe for storage.
